The View from Here, is one man’s perspective on the chaos and challenges of life during this seismic level of socio-political change that’s got us all going ‘squirrelly!’ That man is award winning comedian, best-selling author and unapologetic Canadian Ron James, whose been selling out theatres to standing ovations from coast to coast for almost thirty years. With a poet’s ear for language and a stand-up’s eye for satire, Ron’s rollicking delivery takes the audience on a 100 minute or more non-stop roller coaster ride, as they process the daily trauma of a world out of whack in the language of laughs.
It’s a view ‘from our side of the fence of a next door neighbour we once knew’, now under the iron rule of a totalitarian ‘Pedo-In-Chief’ and his reptilian eyed minions, whose messianic march of MAGA-fest Destiny not only threatens our own sovereignty with tariff wars and annexation, but is dangerously close to driving the world into a post nuclear stone age!
Which is why, says Ron, “I’m taking yoga, because as soon as I see that mushroom cloud rising over the CN Tower, I’ll be able to bend over and kiss my ass good-bye!”
Interwoven within the theme of both past and present American/Canadian relations, are assorted issues of the day, such as social media addiction; the rising cost of living; love lost and found; fathers and mothers in a world that was; liquor fueled camping trips from party hearty days of yore; poetic homage to people and place on a long road travelled; childhood school days and Anglican church service; climate change; AI; hospital wait times and the redemptive powers of nature, delivered by an ever-struggling ADHD addled ‘everyman’ where mortality is the new reality for his once bullet proof demographic, now but ‘twenty years away from roaming the home in their Led Zeppelin onesies just a sing a long away from taking a Stairway to Heaven’!
The View from Here reminds us that we’re all in this together, because when ‘me’ trumps ‘we’ everyone loses.
