Inside The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Toronto Premiere

It was 50 years ago this past November when the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, one of the largest lake freighters, sank beneath the icy waters of Lake Superior, taking all 29 crew members with her. This tragic shipwreck inspired Gordon Lightfoot to write a song that instantly became a #1 hit and immortalized the shipping trade on the Great Lakes.

In this Toronto premiere production from Harmony House, Mike Ross and a band of extraordinary island musicians and storytellers — Shane Pendergast, Brielle Ansems, Cameron MacDuffee, Alicia Toner and Greg Gale — bring the story of this ill-fated ship to life.

Through Lightfoot’s legendary music, INSIDE THE WRECK OF THE EDMUND FITZGERALD will take you on a journey from the ship’s maiden voyage to its final, fateful day.

Created by Mike Ross and Sarah Wilson, this intricate, fascinating and moving look at one of Canada’s best-known ballads explores the song while also paying homage to many other Gordon Lightfoot hits.

Songs featured include: Oh, So Sweet, Carefree Highway, For Lovin’ Me, Summer Side of Life, Oh, Linda, The Auctioneer, Song For a Winter’s Night, Black Day in July, Early Morning Rain, Don’t Beat Me Down, Sundown, If You Could Read My Mind, and, of course, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
